About Sixty Pound Rail
Chuck Spinks first developed his love of trains when he received a Märklin train set at the age of six while in Germany where his Dad, an Army Officer, was stationed. He grew up in the East Bay town of Orinda, and later served 4 years in the Army with the Army Security Agency in Vietnam and Germany. Chuck went on to get his degree in Civil Engineering at San Jose State University. Since retiring as a civil engineering consultant, Chuck has been devoting his time as a Docent at the California State Railroad Museum, as well as being very active with the American Society of Civil Engineers as a member of the Society’s History & Heritage Committee. When not involved with all things related to trains and history, Chuck can be found tending his small vineyard in Northern California where he lives with his wife and two dogs.
